Question for my readers

Dear Readers,

Let's pretend that you heard that your bike community was planning a "Bike Fashion Show". What sort of things would you want to go see? What would get you excited?

I'm purposely being vague here, I'm hoping for some brainstorming. If y'all want more direction I'll be more concrete. But just throw things out there - what would you like to see?

Thanks!
-Charlotte

KNICKERS!

Jackets that work for riding and commuting but dont make you look like you are doing "sport."

I would definitely go to find out which designers/clothing outfitters made jackets with an adequately long sleeve length . And, as B-Bike-G says, the jackets must be good for riding; chic, but not "sport."

Is it about the clothes, or the bikes? I ask, because the two bikes I ride most are my cargo bike, and an ancient 3-speed with full chain case, and there's so much to be said for hopping on a bike that does not threaten your pants with grease (though the cotter on the crank threatens to snag my cuffs).

So, chaincases and fenders (and smooth-ended cotterless cranks), would make a difference. It makes enough of a difference, just for ordinary clothes, that I am thinking about upgrading the cargo bike, if only I could find a stretched chaincase.

Men in suits on bikes!
Nothing much more civilized in my book!
ahh, the never ending search for a waterproof, visible but not sporty bicycling jacket....
I really wish that you could buy Illuminite fabric-I'm a terrible seamstress, but I'd learn...

Fun topic!

pretty bikes. Cargo bikes. Baskets.

Skirts. Leggings, knee highs. Fun shoes. Cute helmets, helmet covers, fun hats. Fun hats for hiding helmet hair after riding. Fun pratical and stylish rain coats/gear. hot comfy for biking outfits.

Boys in cute suits- ( basically a la a tweed ride. I like my boys in cords, tweed and vests as in three piece suits without the jacket vests ( buttoned up!!) not wierd leather vests left open or god forbid bare chested! ( and sadly my own man does not wear any of that so I oogle whomever I can)

baggage. saddle bags, baskets bags for baskets, purses in baskets, backpacks on pretty birls ( I'm personally in love with my own look of wearing my LV light purple backpack while biking. Practical and oh so chic) hot messenger bags on cute men.

( hmmm and lots of hotties. Sorry, I need to get out a bit more! )

I think the idea behind any fashion show is to inspire and celebrate interesting ideas, and that can be both about how to design clothing to work on bikes that don't have chainguards or fenders; as well as modifying bikes to play well with 'normal' clothing.

I think, also, it would be neat to have a show that draws inspiration from the diverse sets of style tribes that ride on two wheels -- dutch bikers, mountain bikers, tourists, commuters, hipsters, roadies, retrogrouches, and everything in between. Perhaps, instead of pining for ways to make cyclists blend in to the mainstream, highlight ideas that the mainstream can borrow from cyclists.

I'm into the sporty side of things so I would like to see some decent jackets that are water proof and breathable but dont make you feel like your wearing a plastic bag.. since I do most of my riding in the rain it would be a godsend. Although not too pushed on the really bright colours though

Tight-fitting clothes, preferably shorts and tights and hosiery.. maybe with a throwback of vintage-era feel. I'd love to see beehives instead of helmets, scarves, gloves.. fanny packs for sure!

Even pop-colors like flourescent green and blaring orange, ruby red, and blissful blue. Those sort of colors are truly beautiful, can work together, AND create visibility.

I'd love to see some mixies with fixies :p I personally am in love with the "boy frames".

The basic message: beauty is function.

"Men in suits on bikes!" I second that.

My list:
- showcase innovative bikes & accessories
- runway (closed street or park with long path) with music
- bike paparazzi?
- show sets for different demographics (families, tots, teens, seniors, couples, cycling with pets, cycling with bulk, etc.)
- free prizes (including bikes, accessories)
- highlight the different Cycle Chic styles/bikes across the globe (i.e. Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Portland, SoCal)

Babes. Bikes. Babes on Bikes.

clothes that don't smell after riding and that don't make women (like me) with quads and glutes of steel from those hours of pedaling look like over-ripe pears. nothing with elastic or that's shiny, or constricting. ventilated bike shoes that don't look clip in or totally fuggly.

While I agree with ha1ku (babes on bikes are always good), I'd really like to see a non-sport, water-proof jacket. I love my Barbour, but it's too warm for use during the summer months.

Cris also has it pegged - styles from the diverse tribes of bike-riders that would look good on the general population.

Cheers,
Pat

I live in Wisconsin, and cycle all year. So, definitely fashionable cold-weather/winter clothing.

I'd also like to see cyclists' tastes in tattoos - if they have any.

bike-friendly feminine clothing and bags (think leather satchels); glamorous helmets worn with evening dresses; sexy velo-pumps (I think those should be invented); garments suggesting "the Edwardian era... on crack" (to go with the Dutch-style bike frames); stripes; a New England theme; Mary Poppins...

normal people in normal clothes [or up and coming designers] on cool bikes. but you probably knew i'd say that.
